As part of my school work, I have a particular interest in exploring aspects of wellbeing and sustainability, with native Irish fibres at their core.
“Fashion Future” (our 2023/24 project) was concerned with the exploration of locally produced, natural fibre alternatives for the manufacture of Irish school uniforms, and their design.
“Wool Makes Sense!” (our 2024/25 project) follows on from the student’s knowledge of natural fibres and fibre craft skills, and focuses on the design and production of sustainable “Stress Toys” for our SONAS Autism class (Irish for “happiness”).
Please see below for a video of my presentation at Galway City Council’s “Giob Geab” event which formed part of the 2025 Climate Inspirations Festival. Each presentation contains 5 slides and is of a maximum length of 5 minutes.
My students were also invited to attend the 1st Connacht Youth Climate Assembly at Galway University on the 4th of November, where we displayed our projects; see photos of the event below.
